a bit too late, if this were say, diablo, yes it would still be worth starting. but gw has deteriorated from its former quality

pve, once you get the gist of how skills synergize, then pvp gets easier

warrior if you want to play melee. sins don't require any skill whatsoever to play and you won't learn much trying to play sin.

1. Yes, the game is great.
2. No, it is designed to be casual play friendly. You can spend as much or as little time on it as you want.
3. Don't start as PvP as you won't understand how the system works.
4. Helpfulness is 50/50; you get helpful people and you get jerks. Visit the Guild Connections section of guru and join a guild.
5. Assassin is not a good first character profession. But with multiple character slots and no penalties for recreating, give it a try. Go to guru's Campfire section and read the stickied basics threads in each profession subforum to get a good idea of how each one works.

Welcome to Guild Wars and guru.

Depends on what you want. Guild wars is by now a very old game, so A) few people play and B) those that do play play for very specific purposes, like title hunting and similar. So, you may essentially get a single player game. However, almost everything in the game can still be done with AI driven henchmen, which are often performance wise better than the regular Pick up Group.

2. Do i have to play like 24/7 to achieve something?
Very much no. A) gear has only a minor effect, as the more elite items just LOOK better, but don't WORK better. B) reaching maximum level is not an ongoing goal, but rather a case of "reaching maturity" - 90% of the content is intended to be played by max. level characters.

3. What is better to start as a newbie PvP or PvE?
Depends on what you like, but PvE most likely. You can take a PvE character to Pvp, but not the opposite. PvP as ever will greet a newbie with flames from both dominating opponents and teammates who think you aren't pulling your weight.

Depends on luck, but most likely, they'll be too busy doing their own thing to pay attention and offer help. Really, most people you'll meet will be those who have already done what you want to do 10s of times years ago.

I'd advise against. Assassins... need to be used properly. They don't have the armor that would forgive mistakes and aren't in the backline like casters. They can be very effective... just not in the hands of a new player.

True its an old game and some say not the game it was in the good old days.

Luckily you will not notice this as you didn't play back then.

Its still a game worth playing and very cheap to buy in some places so go ahead give it a go.

Pve is good and you can play whatever you want in there without too many problems.
pvp is less forgiving and you will be hard put to survive or even be accepted in teams till you know what your doing.

Imo, (In My Opinion) yes. It's a very fun game and even though it's almost dead, it's worth playing.

Depends what. Somethings are hard to achieve, but mostly GW doesn't require lots of gameplay to master / understand.

PvE, hands down. PvP contains all the PvEers, that finished all there is to do, or all the people who only like PvP. In PvE, you slowly progress into the game, understand it, and in PvP, your first match could be against the best players out there.

Personally I wouldn't recommend an assassin as your first profession. It's pretty unbalanced, and it has a special way of attacking, in a chain, that could be pretty complex for a new player in GW. I'd recommend Ranger, Warrior, Elementalist or Necromancer. Those are pretty much the most basic professions, with Monk probably right up there with them.

*Note* Don't be afraid to ask for help, you may just land on the right player. Also, GWW is your friend. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page has just about every single piece of info on GW.

Again, welcome.

starting with an assassin is a bad idea imo. Try one of the more core classes like monk, warrior, necro, ranger, ele till you get an understanding of the game.

but if you like god mode, yeah pick a sin.
